Movies Watched in 2012

41. Warrior (Gavin O’Connor, 2011)
It’s a good movie, but I wasn’t all that engaged. Hardy was great as usual, but I didn’t give a shit about his character for the most part. Nick Nolte was good as well, but I personally don’t think it was enough to warrant his nomination over someone like Patton Oswalt, Ben Kingsley or Albert Brooks this year. In all honesty, Joel Edgerton sort of stole the show and actually gave me a character with a story I could care about.
The direction was solid work, but the movie really could have done with about twenty minutes being left on the cutting room floor. Maybe it’s because I’m not the biggest fans of fighting films, but I just think it could have been done a little better in terms of length and pacing during certain segments. Also, I’d just like to throw out that it’s pretty predictable (obviously because it’s a fighting film and when aren’t those relatively predictable).
