238. Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (Nathan Juran, 1958)
What a refreshing film after a double feature of HGL flicks. Solid B&W photography and regardless of a couple of weird cuts, it’s just really well put together, especially for a B-movie. It’s short as hell, so you never really get bored, and the story is a simple one that actually works - a much appreciated fact. Sure you’ve got some hokey effects but what do you expect from a big old sci-fi b-flick from the fifties? A masterpiece? I also really enjoyed Allison Hayes’ performance, however over the top it might have been, and I’m a total sucker for any movie that involves a woman just fucking up her cheating shitbag of a husband even if it’s relegated to about ten minutes. So y’know, pretty cool flick that’s flawed but still dang enjoyable.
