142. Cremaster 5 (Matthew Barney, 1997)
Visually stunning and audibly entrancing, the final film in the cycle is big and theatrical, but fails to keep one interested for too long. Far too many sequences in this last longer than necessary and it just ends up dragging more than one might want. The sets are beautiful - an enormous theater and a small but gorgeous bath house area. The story is intriguing, blending romance and tragedy in the most theatrical of ways, but as I mentioned before it does drag on at times. The film essentially plays out like an opera, and it’s really gorgeous to listen to and look at. The best part of this one is definitely former Bond girl, Ursula Andress, who does a wonderful job with her facial acting.
