I think it’s a marvelous book. I haven’t seen the film yet though. From the trailer it looks like, “Let’s half-heartedly make a film adaptation from a great novel and make it pure Oscar bait with actors that we know will appeal to the Academy and pick the seemingly whiniest kid in the universe.”

Also Stephen Daldry’s films just gets nominated for anything, regardless of how good or bad they are.

  1. thesearethethoughts said: “regardless of how good or bad they are” - to be fair, Billy Elliot, The The Hours, and The Reader are all stupendous in their own right (the last two in particular) I don’t think he has made anything lackluster or contrived up to now (arguably)
