Scientists discover most relaxing tune ever
Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay.
Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as ‘entrainment’. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm.
Dr David Lewis, one of the UK’s leading stress specialists said: “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions.”
The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being Rex advised against listening to it while driving.
The top 10 most relaxing tunes were: 1. Marconi Union - Weightless 2. Airstream - Electra 3. DJ Shah - Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix) 4. Enya - Watermark 5. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing 6. Barcelona - Please Don’t Go 7. All Saints - Pure Shores 8. AdelevSomeone Like You 9. Mozart - Canzonetta Sull’aria 10. Cafe Del Mar - We Can Flymy muscles stopped functioning

All I Want For Christmas Is You - Justin Bieber & Mariah Carey
They sell them over at Urban Outfitters, but I found mine on Amazon
Hmmm, I don’t? That’s silly and I’ve always said you need to have at least an averagely happy life to even start a new relationship. There’s no such thing as “two halves of one whole.” A relationship should be two whole people who want to share those whole lives with each other.
i was just talking with jo about how awesome my paper titles used to be and how terrible i am at coming up with titles for things now, but i think my awesome title streak was definitely during my european history through film class. for example:
- A History of Kings, Queens, and Vi-KINGS in Film
- For the Love of the Bible: An Analysis of Religion and Trauma in Film
- It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World: European Epic Films in the Early 20th Century
- Death Grants No Reprieve: The Death of Historical Accuracy in Film
- Essays of the Round Table or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love This Paper
i was so cool and that teacher loved me
River Waltz (Piano Solo) - Alexandre Desplat
so who wants to help me plan the most awesome first date ever in like two/three weeks???
people are talking about taking their shoes off at someone’s house and all i can think about is the episode of curb your enthusiasm with saul goodman
Christmas Day - She & Him

Alright, let’s go over this list!
PROS:
- 5/6 of the best features are fantastic films!
- Mike Mills scored a director nom!
- Another Earth and MMMM got into first feature!
- Three of my favorite male performances are up for lead!
- Michelle Williams is up for lead!
- COREY STOLL IS UP FOR SUPPORTING ACTOR! And everyone else is great as well so that’s probably my favorite category yet!
- Jessica Chastain!!!!!!!!!!!
- The Interrupters is in the documentary section!
- The International Film awards are all great choices
- Midnight in Paris and The artist are up for cinematography!
- Another Earth is up for first screenplay and that’s perfect because it’s one of the best films of the year without a doubt
CONS:
- 50/50 for best feature? I feel like that spot should have definitely gone to something else this year.
- The fact that the mediocre Margin Call is actually scoring nominations and awards.
- The fact that the terrible fucking mess of a film Bellflower is up for any sort of nomination, especially cinematography. One of the worst of the year.

I liked Moneyball a lot, but I agree. Especially when you consider that Best Screenplay includes Best Original and Adapted Screenplay, so the NYFCC had ample room to award other films. Midnight in Paris/The Descendants would be my picks.
You know, I really liked The Descendants but I was sort of frustrated with how the humor was blended in at times. There were a few scenes where it sort of felt forced in, specifically with the daughter’s friend.
It all really depends. I’m still technically missing plenty of movies from the latter half of the year, but Moneyball definitely didn’t. If we were talking about Sorkin’s work on Social Network, I’d hand all the awards over immediately. But this? Fuck off. If I really had to choose one movie, I’d say Midnight in Paris for original screenplay.
Best Film: “The Artist”
Best Director: Michel Hazanavicius for “The Artist”
Best Actor: Brad Pitt for “Moneyball,” and “The Tree of Life”
Best Supporting Actor: Albert Brooks for “Drive”
Best Actress: Meryl Streep for “The Iron Lady”
Best Supporting Actress: Jessica Chastain for “The Tree of Life”, “The Help” and “Take Shelter”
Best Screenplay: Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin for “Moneyball”
Best Cinematography: Emmanuel Lubezki for “Tree of Life”
Best Foreign Language Film: “A Separation”
Best Nonfiction Film: “Cave of Forgotten Dreams”
Best First Feature: “Margin Call”
2011 Special Award: Raoul Ruiz (posthumously)
I hate the fact that Moneyball got best screenplay because I believe it is wholly undeserving of that award. And Brad Pitt’s performance in it is really nowhere near his best work. I’m disappointed. However, the fact that Jessica Chastain won best supporting actress makes my eyes flow with tears of joy.

Somebody help me think of a title for my review of The Muppets because the ones I came up with last night were too long and ridiculous to handle.
Fuck my life. I left my license at the doctor’s office so I have to magically go pick it up at some point tomorrow as if my life isn’t ridiculously busy enough already this week. Somebody please come give me a massage while I write these reviews.
According to the news it’s going to be 58 degrees tomorrow night and that sounds like HEAVEN.
